Jack the ripper is an unknown murderer in 1888 that stalks the streets in Whitechappel, London. The name "Jack the ripper" originated in a letter written by someone claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media. The letter was believe to be a hoax and may have written by a journalist who wanted to gain heighten interest in story and to increase their newspaper circulation. Before it was called "Jack the ripper", the killer was call "the Whitechappel murderer" as well as " Leather Apron"within the crime case files, as well as in contemporary journalist accounts.

Jack's victim usually had their throats cut and some of his victim's internal organs were removed for unknown reason and scatted around their body. The removal of the organs were surgically done which led investigators believe that the murderer had a medical background.

These are the 1st five victims of Jack the ripper. Marry Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. The murders happen between 31 August and 9 November 1888 are often most likely linked. The murders were never solved, and the legends surrounding them became a combination of genuine historical research. The term "ripperology" was coined to describe the study and analysis of the ripper case. There are now over hundred theories about the Ripper's real identity, and the murders have inspired many works of fiction.
